Rec vs Competitive Teams

The Collinsville Youth Baseball League is a rec league made up of drafted, or "rec" teams. Teams are formed through a blind draft by the league administration.  A player's age, school, and where they live are taken into consideration when forming teams.

If your team wants to join the CYBL and has 6 or more players on your roster that were not assigned to you in this season's draft, you will be considered a non-draft or "competitive" team.  If you have 5 or less players on your roster that were not assigned to you in this season's draft, you will be considered a "rec" team.  If you do not have a full roster, we can fill it thru the draft. 

When making the season schedule, it is our goal to have a separate division for rec and competitive teams.  If we do not have enough teams to do this, we will limit the number of times they play each other as fairly as possible. 

We understand that some "competitive" teams are as such simply because the kids played together and had fun last year.  Because of this policy, it might put you up against teams that are a much higher caliber team than yours.  If you believe this to be the case, you may email the league and request exemption to this rule. The board will look at numerous factors including but not limited to, how was your team formed, win/loss record last year, does your team practice before March 1.

If your team is found to be eligible for the rec division, the CYBL still reserves the right to move your team back to the competitive division at any point during the season.
